The Australian media watchdog, known as the ACMA, is taking strong action against unlawful international wagering and promotional websites. They have directed Internet providers to restrict connections to these platforms, bolstering safeguards for Australian users.
An inquiry by the ACMA uncovered numerous websites violating the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act. Platforms such as Casino Moons, Winnerama, Extra Vegas, and Win Paradise were publicly identified on the ACMA’s website, accompanied by a call for ISPs to block them.
This represents the most recent step in a series of measures undertaken by the ACMA. Since 2017, their endeavors have led to the departure of over 170 illicit gambling operations from the Australian market. At the ACMA’s behest, ISPs have blocked 568 unauthorized gambling and affiliate marketing websites since 2019.
Furthermore, the ACMA is committed to raising consumer awareness regarding the dangers of engaging with illegal gambling services and advises them to consult the ACMA registry for authorized platforms.
Earlier this month, the ACMA also delivered a formal caution to Proxous Advanced Solutions, a provider.
The Australian Media regulator, ACMA, has formally cautioned software developer Proxous for providing its services to thirteen unlawful internet casinos. The ACMA found that Proxous understood these gambling sites were marketing to Australians, breaching national regulations.
This instance represents the initial occasion where the ACMA has issued a warning to a business for “participation in illicit gaming operations via the provision of software.”
