Mississippi sports wagering witnessed a 7.9% surge in bets placed in April, according to the Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGCB).
The MGCB has published a report indicating that sports betting wagers rose by 7.9% annually in April, despite a slight dip in income for the state.
Mississippi residents wagered $35.5 million (£28.7 million/€33.9 million) on sporting events in April, an increase from $32.9 million in April 2021, but a decrease of 25.9% from $47.9 million in March.
Earnings were down 2.3% year-over-year to $4.2 million, although this was slightly higher than the $4.1 million recorded in March 2022, despite the lower wagering figures.
Coastal gambling establishments remain the preferred location for consumers, generating a total of £2.5 million in revenue from $23.5 million in wagers.
Central casinos generated $941,421 in revenue during the month, with players wagering a total of $6.6 million. Northern casinos generated $747,476 in revenue from $5.5 million in wagers.
Basketball was once again the most popular betting sport across all regions of Mississippi, with $10 million wagered at coastal casinos, $2 million at central casinos, and $2.9 million at northern casinos.
The MGCB also observed that the state’s total monthly win rate across all casinos was 11.9%, down 17.1% from the previous year.
